Sam Smith has claimed they contracted coronavirus two weeks before the UK lockdown began in a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music.
The Writing’s On The Wall singer, 27, said they and their sister had exhibited coronavirus symptoms, and while they were not tested, they believe they had caught the infection.
Sam said: ‘I didn’t get tested but I know I have it, 100% have it. I’m just going to assume that I did because everything I’ve read completely pointed to that.

‘So yeah, I think I definitely had it. And then as soon as I had it, my sister five days after me started getting the same symptoms who’s living with me.’
Following government guidelines, the pair then self isolated for three weeks to make sure they were clear of the virus.

Sam said: ‘So me and her just isolate for three weeks because we knew. It was clear. Because I’ve got an older nan and stuff, so we didn’t want to risk anything. I got it about two weeks before the UK really hit.
‘Well, I think I got it. I don’t 100 percent know, but I got it and then as everyone was kind of really on lock down, that’s when I got over it, luckily.’
‘No malice’: The star also responded to criticism over their ‘quarantine meltdown’ post, saying: ‘I posted with my humour and stuff, but it just didn’t get picked up very well, but I didn’t mean any malice by it at all’
The Oscar-winner recently announced that their new album will be re-named, its release date pushed back and track list updated as they make ‘important changes and additions.’
The singer took to social media to say the album name and release ‘didn’t feel right’ amid the current pandemic.
Speaking to Zane, Sam confirmed the album had a new title and said: ‘It’s actually better than To Die For. No idea actually [when announcing it].
‘And I don’t even know if I’m going to put Dance With a Stranger on there. And How Do You Sleep and To Die For.

‘I think might take them off and do something completely fresh and it’ll be a completely new album…I love them too, but they’re still there.
‘It’s just like I feel weird bringing out an album that’s… Dance With a Stranger by January will be two years that’s been released and I find it weird bringing out an album with that on there.
‘But I think it just, I’m ready to just gauge how I feel and how it feels but… That’s there, album three is there that’s ready to go whenever it’s right. And then number four, I started writing and it’s a whole different vibe. It’s amazing. It’s great.
‘I’ve got an album title for album four and I just know the vibe I want. I just want it to be sexy, really, really sexy.
‘I want it to be in the album that you can put on and you can have a whole night f*****g to or you can be in the bar and you listen to it. Do you know what I mean? Or you have a wine night.’

The star has been on the promo trail from lockdown for new Demi Lovato collaboration, I’m Ready and spoke to Heart Radio’s Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Thursday.
The Money On My Mind hitmaker also responded after they were criticised after sharing their varying ‘stages of a quarantine meltdown’ last month as they self-isolate at their £12 million home.
The star appeared to be struggling during self-isolation after they shared two snaps to Instagram.
One photo saw Sam with a pained expression on their face while a different snap saw the singer hold their head in their hands and appear to cry.
Sam Smith fans rushed to defend the star after the singer was trolled over the post.
Sam said: ‘It was six weeks ago I posted a picture and everyone else was posting pictures, it was probably bad timing of me, but I use my social media as if it’s just my friends on it.
‘I posted with my humour and stuff, but it just didn’t get picked up very well, but I didn’t mean any malice by it at all.
‘Yeah, you know me, I’m always sharing all of my feelings all the time and trying to be as human as possible but sometimes maybe people can read it wrongly but that wasn’t really meaning it in a malicious or nasty way, I was just trying to be myself.’
Discussing life in isolation with Rob Howard and Lauren Layfield (on Capital Breakfast, the star also revealed they went on a dating app in the first two weeks in lockdown and ‘it was the worst’.
They said: ‘No, for the first two weeks I was like “oh my god I’m single, I need to like…”. I went on this dating thing and it was the worst! ‘
‘And then you get attached to guys, and then you’re forming quarantine relationships over the phone, it’s a dangerous path…it’s just not going to work right now!’
